Iran arrests another former vice-president
Monday, 8 June 2015
Iran's official news agency says one of the country's vice presidents, who was under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has been arrested.
This is the second such high-profile detention among officials of the former administration, a news agency report said.
IRNA's report quotes judicial spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejehi as saying that Hamid Baghaei, who was Ahmadinejad's vice president in charge of executive affairs, was arrested on Monday.
There were no further details.
Ahmadinejad's administration ended in 2013.
In January, Iran's Supreme Court convicted and sentenced another former vice president Mohammad Reza Rahimi to five years in prison and fined him 10 billion Rials ($300,000).
The verdict came after repeated allegations by foes of Ahmadinejad's hard-line government of massive corruption.
Since taking over, President Hassan Rouhani has criticized growing corruption in the country in unusually blunt terms.
