Monday, 2 July 2007

An Iranian flag-carrying container ship started sinking Sunday morning 60 nautical miles south-east of Hiron Point of Mongla sea-port, as cracks developed on its lower deck. Mongla Port Harbour Master Captain Shariful Hossain said, the MV Mir Danad began taking in water through cracks on the deck of its engine room in the morning, with its 17 crew members trapped inside the sinking vessel. The ship sailed from Chittagong Port Thursday for Chennai Port of India with empty containers on board. Bangladesh Navy Ship BNF Korotowa has already left the port for rescuing the crew and salvaging the wrecked ship. — UNB
