Iraq envoy urges FBCCI to tap export potential

Bangladeshi businesses can tap the opportunities in Iraq by exporting diversified products and taking part in its development activities, as the war-torn country has started turning around, an envoy said on Tuesday.
Bangladesh's Ambassador to Iraq A M M Forhad also underscored the need for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between apex trade bodies of the two countries.
He came up with the opinion at a meeting with Md Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin), president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), at the latter's office in the city, said a statement.
According to it, the FBCCI President laid emphasis on exporting new products to Iraq in a bid to expand bilateral trade with Iraq.
Mr Shafiul Islam also requested the ambassador to take necessary steps to hold meeting between the apex chambers of both the countries.
He mentioned the role of the private sector in the fast-growing development activities of the country.
The ambassador requested the FBCCI leaders to visit Iraq at a suitable time.
FBCCI directors including Abu Motaleb, Md Abu Naser and Salahuddin Ali Ahmed, among others, were present during the meeting, the statement added.
