Irri-Boro cultivation in S-W region planned

JESSORE, Feb 17 (BSS): Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up programmes to cultivate Irri-Boro paddy in ten districts of South-western region under Khulna division during the current Rabi season.
The ten districts are-Jessore, Narail, Jhenidah, Magura, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Satkhira, Khulna and Bagerhat.
The DAE office sources said under the programme, a total of 5,75,608 hectors of land would be brought under Irri-Boro cultivation with the production target of 23,04,383 tonnes.
Department of Agriculture Extension sources said of the Total, 1,53,478 hectares would be brought in Jessore with production target of 6,13,802 tonnes paddy, 41,501 hectares in Narail with production target of 1,73,193 tonnes, 81,310 hectares in Jhenidah with production target of 3,16,583 tonnes, 35,676 hectares in Magura with production target of 1,42,742 tones,.
Besides, 35,111 hectares in Kushtia with production target of 1,36,646 tonnes, 6,714 hectares in Chuadanga with production target of 1,45,704 tonnes, 22,844 hectares in Meherpur with production target of 90,608 tonnes, 73,138 hectares in Satkhira with production target of 2,91,945 tonnes, 48,650 hectares in Khulna with production target of 2,00239 tonnes and 47,186 hectares in Bagerhat district with production target of 1,92,921 tonnes.
As part of the programme, farmers have already set up seed-beds on the land spreading improved quality Irri-Boro seeds, the sources said.
The crop specialists and field-level officials of the DAE are providing their field-level services to the cultivators following directives of the government.
