ISESCO nominates Dhaka as Islamic Culture Capital for 2012

Dhaka has been nominated as Islamic Culture Capital by Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) for the year 2012, reports UNB. The announcement was made at the 7th Islamic conference of Cultural Ministers, which ended in Algiers, the capital of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, on December 19, said a handout Tuesday. ISESCO nominated the capital of Bangladesh as Islamic Culture Capital under its programme of Islamic Culture Capitals. Accordingly, 2012 will be the celebration year of Dhaka as a renowned capital of Islamic Culture. Dhaka has fulfilled the criteria for this selection because of its distinguished cultural history as well as its material and intellectual heritage worthy of appreciation and presentation, it said. The preparation for the celebration of Dhaka as the capital of Islamic Culture will be carried out in coordination with ISESCO.
