The government has been contemplating to construct the long cherished railway track between Ishwardi and Kazirhat via Pabna district town, Planning Minister Air vice Marshal (retd) AK Khandoker said Saturday, reports BSS.
"This rail road which was proposed during British regime would act as the cornerstone for constructing the second bridge over the river Jamuna between Aricha and Char Latibpur (Kazirhat)," he said at a function as the chief guest.
Pabna Samity organised the function titled "Problems in Pabna: Urgent Steps Needed" at the Diploma Engineers Institute in the city, where State Minister for Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku spoke as the special guest.
Shamsur Rahman Sharif Dilu, MP, chairman of Tariff Commission Dr Mujibur Rahman and transport owners leader Baby Islam also spoke on the occasion, chaired by Manzoor Hossain, president of Pabna Samity.
AK Khandoker, also elected from Sujanagar-Bera constituency of Pabna district, said Pabna has become a pocket district after the construction of the first bridge over the Jamuna, but it can remerge as an important district again once a bridge is constructed between Aricha and Kazirhat.
