Islami Bank to invest Tk 79b in SME sector

Islami Bank will invest Tk 79.0 billion in SME sector along with the investment amount of Tk 24.0 billion this year. At present the Bank's total investment in SME is Tk 55.0 billion which is 24 per cent of its total investment and 10 per cent of the country's total investment in this sector.
It was disclosed at a function held on the occasion of the SME Clients' Service Fortnight of Chittagong North Zone and Chittagong South Zone of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) at the Woodland Park Community Centre in Chittagong recently.
IBBL Chairman Abu Nasser Muhammad Abduz Zaher was present at the ceremony as chief guest, said a press release.
Director Mohammad Dawood Khan, Managing Director Md Abdul Mannan, IBBL Shari'ah Council Member Secretary Abu Bakar Rafique and Bangladesh Bank (Chittagong office) General Manager Nawshad Ali Chowdhury were present as the special guests.
EVP of Chittagong South Zone Abul Hossain presided over the function.
Former vice chancellor of Chittagong University AKM Nuruddin Chowdhury, Muhtamim of Darul Ma'arif Allama Sultan Zawk, Imam of Chittagong University Mosque Maulana ABM Siddiqullah, Head of Chittagong South Zone EVP Mohammad Munirul Moula, Islami Bank Officers' Welfare Association President SVP Md Mosharraf Hossain, S Alam Group Director Abdus Salam Labu and PHP Group Director Ali Hossain were present on the occasion.
Earlier in the morning, the Branch Managers' Conference of the Chittagong North and South Zones was held at the Agrabad Branch premises of the bank.
ANM Abduz Zaher, Mohammad Dawood Khan and Dr Abu Bakar Rafique were present at the programme which was presided over by the managing director of the bank. Zonal heads of Chittagong North and South Zones and managers of 31 branches were present at the conference.
Abu Nasser Muhammad Abduz Zaher, in his speech, said that Islami Bank is working for overall and equitable development of the country, poverty alleviation and removal of the economic discrimination from the society. He called upon the employees to reach the welfare-oriented service of the bank to all the people irrespective of religion, caste and creed.
Muhammad Dawood Khan said investment in SME sector may ensure the sustainable development of the economy. He advised the managers to invest in SME sector.
Muhammad Abdul Mannan said Islami Bank is working with a view to building up the country as self-reliant.
Nowshad Ali Chowdhury appreciated the overall activities of Islami bank and requested the bank management to increase investment in SME and agricultural sector.
