Islamia College principal held over RU teacher killing

Four people, including Islamia College's Principal Humayun Ahmed, have been detained over the killing of Rajshahi University (RU) teacher AKM Shafiul Islam. Ahmed was picked up from Binodpur adjacent to the RU campus on Sunday, Matihar police OC Alamgir Hossain said. Prof Shafiul Islam, 48, sociology department’s teacher, was attacked near the campus on Saturday afternoon. He succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital an hour later. Rajshahi Metropolitan detective police’s OC Abdul Majid said three others were detained during Sunday’s raid but did not disclose their identities. He said they were questioning the four over the murder. Police on Saturday detained two other persons hours after killing, according to a news agency.
