Ispahani Eye Hospital organises seminar for ophthalmologists

Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital (IIEIH), the oldest and largest eye hospital in Bangladesh, organised Thursday a seminar for pediatric ophthalmologists on managing the special situations in pediatric cataracts.
The seminar on "Management of Special Situations in Pediatric Cataracts" was arranged as part of a project, under which the Islamia Eye Hospital, a non-profit organisation, will perform 268 pediatric cataract surgeries free of cost, its official said.
The "Bangladesh Eye Care Project" (Global Grant No GG1418526) was contributed by different Rotary Clubs and Districts, they said.
Dr Kalpana Narendran, a renowned Pediatric Ophthalmic Surgeon from LAICO, India, was the speaker at the seminar held at the hospital in the city.
A good number of the pediatric ophthalmologists across the country, along with the ophthalmologists from the Islamia Eye Hospital, attended the programme.
PDG Zainul Abedin, DRFC, of Rotary International District 3281 Bangladesh, inaugurated the seminar.
Dr Kalpana shared her experiences in managing special situations in pediatric cataracts with the participants. She also assisted the pediatric ophthalmologists of Ispahani Hospital in diagnosing selected complicated pediatric eye cases.
The Global Grant was contributed by Rotary Club of Dhaka West, Rotary Clubs Champions Sunrise (Houston), Rotary District 3281 Bangladesh and Rotary District 5890 USA, an official of the hospital said, adding that Ispahani Eye Hospital is implementing it.
At the seminar, Mr Abedin on behalf of the Rotary clubs handed over a 'hand-held auto refractometer' to the hospital. Dr Michael Hall, PhD, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the IIEIH received it.
