IT helped contain corruption, claims Joy

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, an IT expert and son of Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina, Thursday said the government has been able to 'check corruption to a great extent' by reaching IT facilities to the doorsteps of common people, reports UNB.
"People of the country had to pay a vast amount of money to the recruiting agencies for going to Malaysia. And a portion of the amount went to the Hawa Bhaban during the BNP-Jamaat rule," Joy said in an introductory speech at the 13th meeting of the Domestic Network Coordination Committee (DNCC) held at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Shaikh M Wahid Uz Zaman presided over the meeting.
Mr Joy said that digital Bangladesh is his dream aimed at reaching internet facilities to the rural people to improve their living standard.
The present government made a commendable progress in building digital Bangladesh, he said, adding that through Union Information and Service Centres, the government reached the government services to the common people.
Joy said that before the introduction of Union Information Service Centres, the people had to pay a high amount of money to the recruiting agents for going abroad including Malaysia.
"Taking the advantage of digital technology, people are now filling up the forms online for going abroad and going to Malaysia by paying a few thousand taka only. There is no chance of corruption in this process as everything is being done online."
