It is not EC's business to see who votes using EVM: Sakhawat

NARSINGDI, Jan 2: Election Commissioner Brigadier Gen (retd) Sakhawat Hossain today (Monday) said here, it was none of their business to see who would participate in the by-election of Narsingdi pourashava and who will not through EVM system.
He said, "We will hold Narsingdi by-election on January 19 through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) system and hope all will participate in the election."
The Election Commissioner made this observation while addressing a views exchange meeting on the law and order on the occasion of by-election of Narsingdi Pourashava as chief guest while Deputy Commissioner of Narsingdi Obaidul Azam presided at Deputy Commissioner's Conference room in Narsingdi town on January 2.
Mir Sarowar Morshed, Regional Election Officer, Police Super Narsingdi Khandakar Mohid Uddin, RAB Representative of Narsingdi Ahsan Habib, ,Returning Officer Abdul Adud, ADC (general) Dr A K M Waliullah, ADM Ali Ahasan were also present in the meeting.
The Election Commissioner said measures should be taken if any candidate disobeyed the election rules.
He said Police, Ansar, RAB, Armed Battalion will be deployed at all the polling centres to maintain law and order. Besides, nine Magistrates including 3 Judicial Magistrate will be engaged in the by-elections of Narsingdi Pourashava.
He sought co-operation from all to hold the Narsingdi Pourashava by-election in a free, fair manner.
Among others Narsingdi District Administrator of Zila Parishad and president of District Awami League Advocate Ashaduzzaman, General Secretary of District BNP Narsingdi Tofajjal Hossain Master, Sadar Upazila Chairman Monjur Elahi and candidates of the by-election addressed the meeting.
A total of 7 candidates out of 9, journalists, local elite and political party leaders were present.
