It's not possible to try all offences: Mainul

Tuesday, 9 October 2007

Law Adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein has said it is not possible to try all the offences, but some offenders have been tried to send out a signal to others so they abstain from wrongdoing.
"It has not been possible to try all the offences in any country of the world, some offenders are tried to set examples," he told a function organised to distribute the share certificates of Dhaka Reporters (DRU) Unity's Multipurpose Cooperative Limited in the city Monday, reports UNB.
Energy Adviser Tapan Chowdhury was present at the function as the special guest.
The adviser said now it is not that much important to detect who had committed how much corruption in the past as "we'll have to work on with a positive attitude."
In his self-evaluation of the caretaker government's activities in the past eight months, he said, "We had to do many things out of compulsion, but now we perceive many things were not done correctly.
“But we had no option but to do because the situation reached such a stage where it was difficult to remain honest."
Hosein said the politicians caused harm to themselves by patronising politicisation in every sector in the past, resulting in a horrible situation.
"Politicians should do politics in the interest of the nation, not for themselves," he said, adding the politics of lackey cannot be the politics of an independent country.
The Adviser said, "If we fail to establish a good government and justice, people's aspirations will not be fulfilled."
He urged the journalist community to project the ills and wrongdoing of society so the government could take actions to have remedies.
Barrister Hosein again said the current government is not only working for holding elections but also for establishing good governance so the nation does slip back into the scenario of before January 11.
