Its registration to be cancelled, says CEC

Chief Election Commi-ssioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed Thursday said they would cancel registration of Jamaat-e-Islami if the government bans it, reports BSS. "We will cancel registration of Jamaat, if the government bans it," he said at a press briefing at the EC Secretariat. "In accordance with law, it is a long process to cancel registration of Jamaat and decision in this regard will be taken after reviewing the issue further," he also said. Section 90 (H) of the Representation of the People Order empowers the EC to cancel the registration of any political party. EC Commissioners Mohammad Abdul Mobarak, Brig Gen (rtd) Md Zabed Ali and Mohammad Abu Hafiz were present at the briefing.
