IUB holds 19th convocation

The 19th convocation of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) was held on its campus in the city on Sunday.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury attended the programme as the convocation speaker. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid presided over the function on behalf of President and Chancellor of the university Md Abdul Hamid, according to a statement.
A total of 1,119 students received certificates for completing their honours and master's degrees successfully from the university. This year, IUB is completing its 25th years' of journey towards quality higher education.
In her speech, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said, "The education and knowledge you will be gathering throughout the life should be able to contribute for the humanity." She also urged the students to spread their expertise for the wellbeing of the underprivileged people.
While addressing the programme, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said, "Leading private universities like IUB are truly making significant contributions towards achieving the government's higher education goals."
Chairman of University Grants Commission Prof Abdul Mannan was also present as special guest. He said IUB is putting impact remarkably on producing quality graduates who can really take the charges.
Vice Chancellor of IUB Prof M Omar Rahman expressed the hope that the graduates will retain their passions lifelong to think differently, contribute to human beings and succeed eventually.
Chairman, Board of Trustees of IUB Rashed Chowdhury, said, "Education and experience gathered from IUB will help the graduates to conquer the manifold challenges of the real world."
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Designate) Prof Milan Pagon gave the vote of thanks upon conferring degrees.
