JAGPA calls for deferring polls date
Saturday, 15 November 2008
JAGPA president Shafiul Alam Prodhan said Friday that the date for the general elections must be deferred to hold a credible election by accepting logical demands, reports UNB.
Addressing his party's extended meeting of Dhaka city committee at JAGPA office, he said it was better not to hold the elections forcibly by keeping nearly 50,000 Hajj pilgrims out of the elections.
Besides, he cautioned that none would be able to resist "two twenty two" instead of "one eleven" if attempts were made to hold the election by excluding the four-party alliance and patriotic forces.
Prodhan said although the Fakhruddin government was in power, some parties were too eager in their role as ruling party.
He also criticised the role of foreign diplomats for their roles in internal politics of the country.
