Jail authorities yet to receive order copy

Wednesday, 8 April 2015

The Supreme Court's order dismissing death-row convict Mohammad Kamaruzzaman's review appeal has not reached the prison authorities, stalling the process of execution, reports bdnews24.com.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader's plea to revise his death sentence was scrapped on Monday morning by an Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.
It prompted the Dhaka Central Jail authorities to make preparations Monday for the execution of death sentence for his war crimes.
But the copy of the order had not reached the court's concerned wing until 12pm Tuesday, said Supreme Court Registrar Syed Aminul Islam.
Without receiving a copy of the order, the jail authorities cannot ask the convict whether he would seek presidential pardon or not.
