RAJSHAHI, July 11 (BSS): Passing out parade and oath-taking ceremony of the 46th batch of recruit Jail Guards was held at Jail Training Academy in the city Saturday amid festivity.
Senior Secretary to the Home Ministry Dr Mozammel Haque Khan attended and addressed the ceremony as the chief guest while Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin and Deputy Inspector General of Prison Bazlur Rashid spoke as the special guests.
Deputy Jailer of Rajshahi Central Jail Jakir Hossain conducted the parade.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed, DIG of Police of Rajshahi range Iqbal Bahar, Commissioner of RMP Md Shamsuddin and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, among other dignitaries, were present at the ceremony.
The chief guest said the country's jails are now being transformed into correction place centres instead of execution of sentence.
He said the government has undertaken various projects for enhancement of the efficiency of the jail authorities. Side by side, he said the government has adopted different programmes to help the prisoners to rehabilitate after ending their jail life.
Home Secretary Dr Khan said the inmates of jails are being provided vocational training for their self-employment and manufacture various products having demands at home and abroad.
In view of necessities and demands of time the prisons are being modernized and time-fittings. The jails guards are being trained up through improved training.
He called upon the newly recruited guards to devote themselves to ensure peace in the jail together with maintaining security of the prisoners. He said jail keepers play important role in maintaining law and order in the society through keeping the convicted and accused persons safe and secured in jail.
