Jalalabad Hills to be preserved as historic site: Jute Minister

CHITTAGONG, Apr 22: Masterda Surya Sen was not only a great revolutionary of Bengal but a guiding force for the repressed millions of the world. Jute and Textile Minister Abdul Latif Biswas said this at a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of the historic Jalalabad Day at the city's JM Sen Hall today. He said the place where the Bangali youths fought a valiant fight against the British soldiers in 1930 under the leadership of Masterda Surya Sen, needs to be preserved as a historic place. "The place is now within the area of Chittagong Cantonment under ministry of defence. So the decision to preserve the site as a place of historic importance needs approval of the Prime Minister, who is in charge of the ministry," he said. Organized by Chittagong Association the function was chaired by its vice president Advocate Mahbub Uddin and addressed by professor of the Chittagong University Ranjit Kumar Dey, journalist Abul Momen and secretary of the association Principal Gopal Das. They said the valiant sons of the soil under Surya Sen fought out the British soldiers in the Jalalabad Hills and kept parts of Chittagong liberated for four days in the year 1930. Floral wreaths were placed at the altar of Masterda Surya Sen, JM Sen, the then Congress leader Nelly Sengupta in front of the JM Sen Hall.
