The officer-in-charge (OC) of Sylhet’s Jalalabad Police Station, who was earlier closed to the District Police Lines over Rajon killing, has been suspended. Alamgir Hossain, OC (Investigation) of the police station, was suspended on Monday for his negligence of duty in connection with the brutal killing of Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon on July 8. Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, M Rahmatullah, said on Tuesday that departmental action was taken against him following an order of the Police Headquarters that was sent to the SMP on Monday. In the wake of widespread protests and demand for quick justice over the killing of minor boy Rajon and kickback deal with the killers, Alamgir Hossain was closed to the District Police Lines while its sub-inspectors Aminul Islam and Zakir Hossain were suspended over the incident on July 24. The action was taken against them following the report of the probe panel formed by the SMP to look into the allegations of negligence of duty by police and bribe taking over the gruesome murder of the boy. The three-member probe committee submitted its 424-page report to the SMP commissioner’s office on July 23. The SMP constituted the probe committee to investigate the allegations of negligence of duty of police during the killing incident, their economic deal with the killers and misbehaviour with the victim’s parents, according to a news agency.
