Jalil seeks bail, parole extended

The government has extended the parole of Awami League (AL) general secretary Abdul Jalil by 10 days, the home ministry said in a statement Tuesday, reports bdnews24.com. brThe AL leader, who went to Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital for treatment on parole, returned home on Aug 31. brHis parole was to end on September 10. brEarlier in the day Jalil appealed for bail to the High Court in a case on charges of accumulating illegal wealth and holding back information about assets. brBarrister Ameer-ul-Islam moved a petition for bail at the bench of justices Mirza Hossain Haider and Mamnun Rashid in the case filed by the Anti-corruption Commission. brThe court is set to hear the appeal today (Wednesday).
