Jalil's salvo against AL bigwigs triggers reaction

Thursday, 23 April 2009

Sidelined party general secretary Abdul Jalil's salvo against the ruling Awami League's senior leaders triggered reaction, as AL presidium- member Ameer Hossain Amu Wednesday termed such remarks unwarranted and targeted to tarnish his political image, reports UNB.
"Abdul Jalil tarnished my image through blurting out the comments, and it is totally unexpected from him," Amu told reporters in his instant reaction over the allegation about their links with an intelligence agency.
However, another AL presidium member brought under the broadside, Suranjit Sengupta, took it with a good humour. Such comments from Jalil won't make him deviate from maintaining his friendly relationship with Jalil, he said. "We are close friends," he said.
"There is no need to express anger over the comment, as Jalil is my bosom friend and I did not mind it," Suranjit said.
Replying to a question he said Abdul Jalil is in trouble, to some extent, regarding his post in the party. But the problem will be solved as soon as possible through a political process.
Talking to some reporters at his Motijheel office Tuesday, Jalil alleged that there are some ministers in the cabinet 'paid by DGFI.'
He said AL presidium members Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed and Suranjit Sengupta "worked for the intelligence agency in efforts to have an Awami League minus Sheikh Hasina" during the political purge under the past emergency rule.
