Jamaat Ameer alleges attacks on supporters

FE REPORT | Saturday, 14 February 2026

Bangladesh Jamaat -e-Islami (BJI) Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said that the supporters of the 11-party alliance were facing attacks in different areas of the country.
He described the incidents as fascist activities.
He termed the attacks as unfortunate for the nation.
"Those who have achieved a majority in the election must take responsibility. These fascist signs must stop. If they do not stop, we will be compelled to take any decision," he said while speaking at a press briefing at the party's central office in the capital on Friday night.
Shafiqur said voters had intended to cast their ballots peacefully and that his party had hoped for positive political engagement. "Elections naturally involve victory and defeat, and all sides accept the results if the process is conducted properly. But irregularities raise serious questions," he said.
He thanked citizens who supported Jamaat and said the party would stand firmly by them.
Alleging electoral irregularities, he claimed that vote counting was suddenly halted and that certain polling centres were taken over.
"Many votes cast for Mamunul Haque were cancelled, while votes for Mirza Abbas were not rejected on similar grounds," he added.
"What they are doing is fascism. Fascism is not against us alone; it is against the people of the country," he said.
" If our civility is seen as weakness, that will amount to oppression against ourselves. We respectfully urge that these wrongful acts be stopped," he added.
"I will tell the Election Commission to form the government by suspending the results of the centres where there are doubts," he said.
Additionally, he alleged that information about loan defaulters had been concealed and said he did not wish to see violations of electoral laws.
Referring to broader political grievances, he said any attempt to sideline public demands would not silence their voice, reiterating his party's call for accountability and reforms.
