Wednesday, 13 October 2010

Bangladesh Jama'at-e-Islami Tuesday announced a two-day programme of countrywide rallies on October 14-15 to press for the release of its top leaders arrested in several cases including of war crimes, reports UNB.
Jama'at acting secretary general ATM Azharul Islam announced the programme at a press conference held at the party central office in the afternoon.
As per the programme, the rallies and meetings will be held in all metropolitan cities and district towns Thursday (Oct 14) and at the upazila level Friday (Oct 15) demanding immediate unconditional release of all leaders and activists of the party including its Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami, Secretary General Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed, Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee, assistant secretaries general M Qamaruzzaman and Abdul Quader Mollah, and Dhaka City Ameer Rafiqul Islam Khan.
Addressing the press conference, Azharul Islam strongly denied Jama'at's involvement in crimes against humanity during the liberation war in 1971.
He said, "As the present government has failed to govern the state, it brings before the people the already resolved issue to hide its faults."
The acting Jama'at secretary general said the government has become so isolated from the people that it fears to face the opposition politically. "It has been unleashing repression on Jama'at in the name of so-called war crimes trial or trial of the crimes against humanity."
