PIROJPUR: Local Jamaat-e-Islami Wednesday called a half-day hartal in the district for Sunday protesting a court order sending its district ameer to jail.
Maulana Abdur Rob, secretary of the district unit Jamaat, made the announcement in the evening. The party will also hold a protest rally Thursday, Rob said, according to a news agency.
Earlier in the day, a court sent district Jamaat ameer Tofazzal Hossain Farid to jail in a case filed for torching the district Awami League office on January 9.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Sumaiya Khanam passed the order when the Jamaat leader surrendered before her court seeking bail in the case.
