Jamaat demands action against 'false propaganda'

Saturday, 28 July 2007

Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded of the government to take stern action against false propaganda alongside carrying out its anti-corruption drive, reports UNB.
"Jamaat was never involved with politics of arms and terrorism, and also not so at present. It believes in constitutional, democratic system of politics and it has no link with politics of fascism," said a party press release Friday.
It also denied any Jamaat link with illegal money, so-called fundamentalism, countrywide bombing and militancy.
The release, signed by Publicity Secretary Tasnim Alam, said it was issued to clear the party's position following "false accusations" made by a section of media against Jamaat.
It said: "Some newspapers and media, out of malice, have launched false propaganda against Jamaat for politically harassing its leaders and tarnishing their image."
The Jamaat press release alleged that the media and newspapers, which are supporters of certain quarters, have been carrying out false propaganda in their bid to mislead the people and the administration for foiling the ongoing anti-graft drive and gaining political interests.
Jamaat drew the attention of the Chief Adviser of the caretaker government to the "false propaganda" being carried out by newspapers and media against the party.
"People could not be misled by such 'information-terrorism' against Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh in the past… likewise they cannot be misled this time also," the release added.
