Jamaat leader beaten up, handed over to police

Locals have beaten up Joypurhat Akkelpur Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami chief SM Rashedul Alam Shobuj and handed him over to the police, reports bdnews24.com.
He was beaten up after being waylaid by 20 to 25 locals in Natunhat area of the town on Monday morning while he was on his way to the Akkelpur Upazila Council office, Superintendent of Joypurhat Police Abu Kalam Siddique said.
He was admitted to Joypurhat District Modern Hospital and shown arrested in a case over arson attacks on two buses in Akkelpur on March 1.
The police officer claimed Shobuj was involved in arson attacks but did not identify the locals who assaulted him.
The police later took him to hospital.
