Jamaat leader hurt in Satkhira \\\'gunfight\\\'

A local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami was injured in a ‘gunfight’ between police and his associates at Ashashuni upazila in Satkhira district on Friday. The victim was identified as Kabir Hossain, president of No. 4 Ward of Shobhanli Union Parishad and son of Jamal Uddin Sardar of Bakra village. Police said acting on secret information, a team of police arrested Kabir from Bakra area on Thursday evening on charges of violence. Later police conducted a drive along with Kabir at Maheshwarkati at about 3:00 am in an attempt to recover firearms in his possession. Sensing presence of police, associates of Kabir opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate with firing, triggering a gunfight. Kabir sustained bullet injuries during he incident. He was rushed to Sadar Hospital, according to UNB.
