Jamaat man beaten dead

A group of people killed a local activist of Jamaat-e-Islami at Debhata Upazila in Satkhira early Saturday. The dead is Aktar Hossain Aku, 48, son of Faizul Islam of Kulia village of the Upazila and an activist of the local unit of Jamaat. Jalal Uddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Debhata Police Station, said Aku was a fugitive accused in a criminal case. When Aku was roaming at Deltar Crossing, a group of villagers caught him after a hot chase at about 11:30 pm and beat him mercilessly, leaving him critically injured. Being informed, police rushed in and rescued him from the grip of the rowdy people at midnight and rushed him to a local hospital where the doctor declared him dead, according to a news agency.
