Jamaat man hurt in gunfight with cops in Satkhira

SATKHIRA, July 25 (UNB): An activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was injured in a 'gunfight' with police at Ghonatala in Debhata upazila early Saturday.
The victim was identified as Nurul Amin (45), an activist of Debhata unit Jamaat-e-Islami and son of Akbar Ali Gazi of Garanbaria village.
Tipped off that some activists of Jamaat-Shibir men were gathering in Ghonatala area for carrying out subversive activities, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2.00 am, said Kamal Hossain, sub-inspector (SI) of Debhata thana.
Sensing the presence of police, the Jamaat-Shibir men hurled bombs at them, prompting the law enforcers to take action, triggering a gunfight.
At one stage, Nurul Amin sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight.
Later police rescued him and rushed him to sadar hospital while his associates escaped the scene.
