Jamaat to stage countrywide demo today

Thursday, 14 August 2014

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will stage demonstrations across the country today (Thursday) protesting 'repression' on party's central leader Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud and other party and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) leaders and activists in police custody, reports UNB.
In a statement, party acting secretary general Dr Shafiqur Rahman announced the programme Wednesday.
The party alleged that Shafiqul Islam Masud fell sick seriously as he was tortured during police remand.
"Repressing political leaders and activists on remand is totally unfair and contrary to human rights. The government illegally and inhumanly tortured Masud after taking him on police remand," the statement said.
It demanded the government immediately release all the arrested Jamaat and Shibir leaders, including Masud.
