Jamaat won't accept anyone's domination: Ameer
Wednesday, 18 March 2026
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said his party will not accept anyone's domination over the country, reports BSS.
"Our young generation won't tolerate this at all . . . They want to live with their heads held high, they want to show the world that they are proud to be Bangladeshi," he said.
The Jamaat leader made the comments while speaking at a food distribution programme with China's assistance among the needy people at the Adarsh High School ground in the capital's Mirpur on Tuesday.
Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Yao Wen was also present at the programme.
The opposition leader highlighted Bangladesh's friendly relations with China there.
Noting that diplomatic relations with China span 50 years since Bangladesh was formally recognised in 1975, he said since then China has been one of Bangladesh's largest development partners.
About the Chinese government's gift on the occasion of Eid, the Jamaat Ameer said that during the past fascist regime, this symbol of friendship was hijacked, calling it an act of extreme ingratitude.
"A country gave us a gift out of love. And their names and marks were mixed up," he mentioned.
At the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen said, "I am very happy to come here and meet you. We have brought some gifts for your popular festival Eid-ul-Fitr."
The Chinese Ambassador praised the role of Jamaat Ameer as the Opposition Leader in parliament and said Jamaat-e-Islami would support the ongoing development projects in Bangladesh in the future to support China's relations with Bangladesh.
The Chinese envoy added: "We want to move forward together. We believe that the Muslim brothers and sisters of Bangladesh will also be partners in building a better life, a new and prosperous Bangladesh."
