Jamaat\\\'s daylong hartal on in greater Ctg
Wednesday, 14 May 2014
A daylong hartal (shutdown), called for Wednesday in greater Chittagong by the local unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, is progressing without any untoward incidents. Jamaat called the general strike in the greater Chittagong protesting the arrest of its 21 leaders and activists. No procession or picketing was seen in support of the hartal in the port city or other parts of the south-eastern district. Most of the business establishments kept their shutters down. However, rickshaws and battery-run three-wheelers were dominating the streets of Chittagong city while presence of motorised vehicles was thin. No long route buses left or entered the district since 6 in the morning, according to UNB.
