Jamaat\\\'s slack hartal ends

The second and final phase of countrywide 24-hour hartal, called by Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh demanding the release of its jailed nayeb-e-ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee, was held peacefully in the capital as well as other parts of the country today (Sunday), reports UNB
Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out processions in support of the shutdown at different parts of the capital, including Moghbazar Railgate, Tejganon, Shankar Bus Stand, Dayaganj and Chawkbazar in the morning.
Vehicular movement in the city was almost normal and necessary policemen remained deployed at the important points to fend off any untoward situation.
No incident of violence was reported from any parts of the country till filing of this report at 7:30 pm.
However, around 50 Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists were arrested from Khulna, Narayanganj, Bogra, Jhenidah and Bagerhat districts.
The Islamist party on Wednesday called a 48-hour countrywide hartal, to be enforced in two phases, each of 24 hours from Thursday and Sunday, demanding the government release its leader Sayedee, jailed by the Supreme Court unto death for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
