Jamaat’s countrywide demo Monday

Saturday, 19 April 2014

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will stage demonstrations across the country on Monday demanding the unconditional release of its ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami and nayebe Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee. In a statement, party acting secretary general Dr Shafiqur Rahman announced the programme on Saturday. “The government in a planned way has arranged a farce in the name of trial by filing false cases for so-called crimes against humanity against the Jamaat leaders to create a leadership vacuum in the party,” the statement reads. It claimed that the charges brought against Sayedee in connection with crimes against humanity for which he was awarded capital punishment by a tribunal were cent per cent false and fabricated. The statement also claimed that party ameer Nizami was also given death sentence by a lower court in a ‘false’ case of 10-truck arms haul in Chittagong, according to a news agency.
