Jamalpur clash leaves 2 dead

JAMALPUR, Aug 24 (UNB): Two people were killed and 20 others injured in a fierce clash between the residents of two villages over constructing a road at Shahjadpur Khan Para village in Melandaha upazila of the district Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Harun (28), son of Abu Taha Thandu of Shahjadpur Khan Para village and Murad (45), a resident of Tupkarchar village.
Abdul Halim, sub-inspector (SI) of Melandaha thana, said the residents of Tupkarchar village and Shahjadpur Khan Para village had been at loggerheads over constructing a road.
When some people of Tupkarchar village equipped with lethal weapons tried to construct the road at Shahjadpur Khanpara village around 12 pm, the residents of the village resisted them, triggering a clash.
They attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving the duo dead on the spot and 20 others injured
The injured were admitted to the Jamalpur General Hospital and the Melandaha upazila Helath Complex.
A tense situation was prevailing in the area following the incident.
