Jamdani evokes keen interest in Kunming Fair

Sunday, 17 June 2007

Bangladesh's Jamdani sarees are getting momentum among the fashion-loving Chinese women despite having thousands of years of their own fashion and tradition, reports BSS from China's Kunming.
The buying spree for Bangladeshi Jamdani sarees among the Chinese women was remarkable in the recently concluded "15th China Import and Export Fair - 2007". It was held on June 6-10 at Kunming International Trade and Convention Centre under Yunnan province of China, and ended with huge crowds and huge response for Bangladesh's other items.
The fair, co-sponsored by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (DCCI), created an opportunity for many Bangladesh companies to receive spot orders while many others got chance to look for prospective buyers of their produces in Chinese markets, especially in Kunming.
Mojibor Rahman of Moushumi Jamdani House said, he has received an order of $50,000 for Dhakai Jamdani, whose quality is similar to that of past glorious "Muslin", in the fair. Many others are also in line for negotiation to become dealers of his company in Kunming, he said.
