Jamdani fair opens tomorrow

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) will organise a seven-day Jamdani and handicrafts exhibition and fair on Thursday in the city to make Jamdani famous to the world.
Artisans will display varieties of Jamdani sarees including tersa, jalpar, pannahazar, karola, dublajal, saburga, bolihar, shaplaphool, angurlata, mayurpanch, baghnali, kalmilata, chandrapar and jhumka at 37 stalls at the fair.
Industries minister Amir Hossain Amu will inaugurate the fair as the chief guest at 10:00 am at the National Museum. Cultural minister Asaduzzaman Nur will be present as the special guest while industries secretary Mainuddin Abdullah will chair the event. The fair will remain open for all from 9:00 am till 4:00 pm everyday, the corporation said in a statement.
BSCIC started to set up the Jamdani industrial estate and research centre in 1992 at Noapara of Rupganj upazila at a cost of Tk 58.6 million. The 20- acre industrial estate has 409 plots, of which 399 have been allotted among the entrepreneurs. A total of 363 factories have been set up on the plots.
Besides, there is a haat corner where the Jamdani artisans can sell their products on Thursday.
