Janata Bank gets new chairman

The government has appointed a former public servant as chairman of the Janata Bank, reports bdnews24.com.
Hedayetullah Al Mamun, who retired as a senior secretary last year, has been chosen by the finance ministry to head the state-owned bank's board of directors.
The official order, issued on Sunday, said he will take charge as soon as the Bangladesh Bank clears the appointment in line with Banking Companies Act.
A 1982 batch officer of the Bangladesh Civil Service, Mamum retired on Oct 4, 2017 as the finance secretary.
His brother Obayed Ullah Al Masud is serving as Managing Director and CEO of the state-owned Sonali Bank.
Mamun was promoted to senior secretary in 2014 when he was a member of the Planning Commission.
He was the commerce secretary from 2014 to Feb 28, 2017.
Mamun had also served the ministries of civil aviation and tourism, information and cultural affairs as secretary.
