Janata Bank launches birthday tree campaign

Janata Bank has launched a campaign to gift trees on birthdays under its Our Home Greening Programme.
Janata Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer freedom fighter Md Abdus Salam Azad inaugurated the campaign on Wednesday, said the bank in a statement.
"We need to come forward to plant trees at schools, colleges, roadsides, dams and abandoned places to reduce global warming and protect environment. At the same time, we need to create green patches at our homes and workplaces to cut carbon emissions," he said at a meeting at the head office of the bank marking the launch of the campaign.
Abdus Salam urged everyone to distribute tree saplings as gifts on their birthdays. He said Janata Bank attached the top priority to green banking.
Presiding over the meeting, Mohammad Hossain, founder coordinator of Our Home Greening Programme and former managing director of Sonali Bank, said everyone should work together with dedication to accelerate greening activities.
"Under this programme, three pilot projects have already been undertaken on a voluntary basis," he added.
Janata Bank DMDs Md Abdul Jabbar, Sheikh Md Zaminur Rahman and Md Asaduzzaman, former DMD of Palli Sanchay Bank Md Shahidul Islam and other senior executives were present on the occasion.
