FE Report
Jatiya Nirbachan Parjobekkhon Parishad (JANIPOP) observed the election to the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Thursday and reported the election was impartial and free.
Six teams of JANIPOP, each consisting of five members and led by parishad Chairman and Founder Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, observed around 200 polling stations out of 673, a JANIPOP press release said.
The JANIPOP teams reported that there were multiple booths in every polling station, the law enforcing agencies were visible alongside RAB and military patrol and the magistrates were seen to be on mobile duty.
JANIPOP met the team members of UNDP, NDI and several local election monitoring NGOs. The parishad also met the Returning Officer at several polling stations.
Voters appreciated the E-Voting in 14 polling centres of Zamal Khan ward, as it is faster, easier and transparent compared to the existing manual system, though some were in confusion at the beginning, JANIPOP said.
There were no female agents of female councillor candidates in most of the polling centres, JANIPOP reported.
JANIPOP said it was encouraging to see a female Returning Officer for the first time and expressed the hope that the Election Commission would train more female officers.
