Janmashtami being observed

The Hindu community of the country is celebrating Janmashtami, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, on Sunday with due festivity and religious fervour. Different socio-cultural and religious organisations, including Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and Mohanagar Sarbojoneen Puja Committee, chalked out various programmes marking the day. The progammes include worship of Lord Krishna, puja, Geeta Jagna, Kirtan, discussions and peace processions. President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia greeted the Hindu community on the occasion. The day is a public holiday. The traditional Janmashtami procession will be brought out from Palasi intersection around 3pm and ended at Victoria (Bahadur Shah) Park area after parading different streets in the city. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed will be the chief guest at the programme. Similar programmes have been chalked out across the country to mark Lord Krishna’s birthday, according to a news agency.
