Janmashtami celebrated in districts

GAIBANDHA, Sept 5: Janmashtami, the celebration of the birthday of Lord Krishna and one of the biggest religious festivals of the Hindus, was celebrated in all the seven upazilas in the district Saturday with due religious fervour and enthusiasm.
According to Hindu belief Lord Krishna came on the earth to destroy evil and establish peace. His preaching in Bhagvad Geeta is still guiding light for the followers of the Hindu religion.
In the celebration of the day, different Hindu religious organisations chalked out the elaborate programmes in the district.
The programmes included prayers of Lord Krishna, Puja gathering, Kirtan, Ramayan gaan and recitation from the holy Geeta and the Jagya.
Distribution of Prasad and feeding to the poor seeking divine blessing for the peace and progress of the country were also held on the occasion.
A discussion meeting organised by Bangladesh Puja Utjapon Parishad (BPUP), district unit, was also held on the premises of the V-AID Road Kalibari Temple of the town here at noon.
Deputy Commissioner M. Abdus Samad addressed the function as the chief guest and superintendent of police (SP) Ashraful Islam was present as the special guest while president of BPUP, district unit, Ranajit Bakshi Surjya presided over the meeting.
Our correspondent from Gopalganj adds: The Hindu community of Gopalganj celebrated Janmashtami with a befitting manner Saturday.
Sarbojanin Kendrio Kalibari in collaboration with Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Gopalganj District Unit organised the religious programme to celebrate the day.
Md. Khalilur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (D.C), Gopalganj inaugurated a peace procession as the chief guest where S.M. Emran Hossain, Superintendent of Police (S.P), Gopalgnj, Raja Mia Batu, Acting President District Awamileague (Al) Gopalganj and Rejaul Haque Sikder Raju, Mayor, Gopalganj Paurashava were present as a special guests.
Member of religious organisations like Central Kalibari, Kahttra Kalibari, Dasana Kali Mandir, ISKON Mandir and Bazar Kalibari attended the procession and paraded through the main roads of the city.
Our correspondent from BOGRA says: The Hindu community celebrated with deep enthusiasm Janmashtami, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, here in Bogra district with festivity and religious fervour on Saturday.
A colourful rally, paraded through the main roads of the town, was brought out in the morning from Zilla school campus premises.
A discussion meeting was held presided over by additional deputy commissioner Khorshed Alam while deputy commissioner Md. Asraf Uddin spoke in the function as the chief guest in the Aminul Islam Dulal auditorium.
Superintendent of police Asaduzzaman, trustee advocate Ujjal Prosad Kanu, president of Awami League district unit Alhaj Momtaj Uddin spoke as special guests in the function.
