Janmastami, the celebration of the birthday of Lord Krishna and one of the biggest religious festivals of Hindus, will be observed across the country today (Tuesday), reports UNB.
Krishna is regarded as the epitome of transcendental qualities in the Hindu mythology. His mission was to free the earth from evil, destroy the wrongdoers and protect the pious. The Hindus worship Lord Krishna as an incarnation of divinity.
The day is a public holiday in the country.
Different religious organisations have arranged elaborate programmes including prayers of Lord Krishna, Puja, Geeta Jagna, Kirtan, discussions, drama, rally and peace processions.
The traditional Janmastami procession from the Dhakeshwari Temple will be brought out tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon in which thousands from the Hindu community are likely to take part.
President Dr Iajuddin Ahmed, Chief Advisor Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed and Awami League acting President Zillur Rahman have given separate messages felicitating the members of the Hindu community.
In his message, the President said, "Lord Krishna's endless love for human beings and his endeavor to create a bond of friendship is known to all. Tying all with bonds of fraternity and harmony is the main principle of Lord Krishna's ideology."
Chief Advisor Fakhruddin Ahmed wished people of the Hindu community happiness, peace and progress on the occasion.
Awami League acting President Zillur Rahman also wished the Hindu community peace and happiness on this occasion.
Different organisations including Bangladesh Hindu Parishad, Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad and Geeta Sangha have chalked out detailed programmes including special prayers in temples.
