Japan awards Hon Consul Gen in Ctg

Muhammad Nurul Islam, Honorary Consul General of Japan in Chittagong, received "the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon', an award of the Japanese government conferred in recognition of enhancing friendship with recipient countries.
Japanese Embassy in Dhaka said Saturday, Mr Nurul Islam was among 46 foreign recipients whose names were announced after the Japanese government declared 2012 Fall Imperial Decorations in Japan.
The conferral is in recognition of his contribution to promoting mutual understanding and enhancement of friendship between Japan and Bangladesh for more than 20 years, the embassy said in a press release.
Mr Islam has been engaged in facilitating learning of Japanese language and Japan studies in Bangladesh as the founder of Nippon Academy and Japanese-style business management in Bangladesh as the founder of the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) which is now known as Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Alumni Society.
He has been Honorary Consul General of Japan in Chittagong since 2000 and is the fifth Bangladeshi person who received the honour from the Japanese government which was given on the auspicious occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Bangladesh.
