Japan eager to recruit technical interns from Bangladesh

FE Report | Tuesday, 9 December 2014

Japan has expressed its interest to recruit technical interns from Bangladesh.
Japanese International Manpower Development Organisation (IMDO) Managing Director Kazuo Tusubota conveyed this message Monday during his meeting with Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment (EWOE) Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain at the latter's office in the city.
He said there is a demand for about 2,300 technical interns in Japan every year which is being met up by other countries. With the necessary Japanese language skill and training Bangladeshis can tap the opportunity, he added.
Mr Tusubota assured the expatriates' welfare minister that they will give priority to Bangladeshis in recruiting technical interns for their country.
Mr Hossain said Bangladesh is able to supply any kind and number of skilled workers including technical interns for Japan.
Under the supervision of the EWOE, there are a total 71 technical training institutes including five marine ones where aspirants get training in some 47 trades, he said.
EWOE Secretary Khondaker Showkat Hossain, Director General of the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) Begum Shamsun Nahar and IMDO Deputy Managing Director Kunika Yoshida, among others, were present at the meeting.
Japan needs about 75,000 foreign workers within next five years for the rising ageing population, rehabilitation programme for tsunami-affected areas and Olympics and Paralympics 2020 to be held in Tokyo, sources said.
