Japan govt helps empower the poor thru' micro credit in Narshingdi district

The Japan government has been providing the PARRI, a non-government organisation (NGO), with a grant of 91,176 US dollars (approximately Tk 6.2 million) to empower the poor through micro credit in Narshingdi district.
In this connection, Ambassador of Japan in Bangladesh Masayuki Inoue signed an agreement with Executive Director of PAPRI Abu Based recently.
Since its inception in 1999, the PAPRI has been working for promoting socio-economic development of Narshingdi with technical support from the Shapla Neer, a Japan-assisted NGO that has actively been working in Bangladesh for more than 35 years.
The PAPRI started micro-credit programme in 2001 in Narshingdi district undertaking a project titled 'Empowerment of the poor in Narsingdhi through micro-credit support.'
The project intends to empower the poor, especially women, the landless and the disabled aiming at supporting 8,000 households in total, by financing them to purchase rickshaws, farm animals, seeds, fabrics etc., and to start small businesses.
