CCCI holds meeting with Japanese envoy

Japan keen to strengthen economic ties with BD

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 06: The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) held a view-exchange meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh IWAMA Kiminori at the World Trade Centre (WTC) in the port city on Wednesday.
Addressing the meeting, Kiminori said Chattogram was the strategic hub of Bangladesh and South Asia due to its geographical location.
"As a strategic partner of Bangladesh, Japan is working on various development projects, including the construction of Dhaka metro rail and the third terminal at Dhaka airport. As part of strengthening economic ties, the Japanese government continues to negotiate for an economic partnership agreement," he said.
He also said, "Japan is always identifying areas of cooperation to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries. As part of this, we are focusing on government-to-business (G2B) communication. There are many famous Japanese companies in Chattogram that have been operating for more than 30 years."
The envoy assured all-out cooperation for the expansion of foreign investment in Chattogram for product diversification and human resource development.
The meeting was chaired by CCCI Administrator and Chattogram Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Muhammad Anwar Pasha. Among others, former senior vice president of CCCI Ershad Ullah, Vice President Syed Mohammad Tanveer, Honorary Consul General of Turkey Salahuddin Kasem Khan, Bangladesh Country Representative of Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) Yuji Ando, former honorary consul general of Japan Nurul Islam, Lub-rref Managing Director Mohammed Yousuf, Professor of the United Nations University in Japan Dr Imam Uddin, and former president of Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdul Haque addressed the meeting.
Besides, First Secretary and Head of Economic Affairs and Development at the Japanese embassy in Dhaka Mochida Yutaro, Second Secretary Kobay Yashi Mami, former director of CCCI Amjad Hossain Chowdhury, Honorary Consul of the Philippines MA Awal, and Senior Assistant Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Md Fakhrul Islam, along with embassy officials, were present.
