Japan sets up 12th SME platform in Dhaka

The Japanese government has set up the 12th SME overseas expansion platform in Bangladesh as part of its five-year programme to support 10,000 Japanese small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the emerging countries.
Norihiko Ishiguro, Vice-Minister, Ministry of Economy, Trade and
Industry and Shiro Sadoshima, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan here launched the 12th platform in Bangladesh at Pan Pacific Sonargaon at a ceremony Thursday.
Among others, Yoshihiro Nukumizu, Platform Coordinator and Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan, Managing Director, NewVision Solutions Ltd were present.
According to the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), 10 SME platforms were launched in various countries last year. The 11th SME platform was launched in Phnom Penh in 2014 just before Dhaka. Another 5 (five) will be launched in USA, China and Germany.
The SME platform in Dhaka having its secretariat at JETRO Dhaka office, will be supporting the Japanese SME companies which would like to choose Bangladesh as their destination of business.
Japanese Embassy in Bangladesh, Japan International Cooperation Agency, JETRO, Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Japanese Commerce and Industry Association in Dhaka will be the coordinator in Bangladesh.
