Japan supports Lutheran Hospital in Potuakhali

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Masayuki Inoue Thursday signed a grant contract amounting to US$ 85,233 (approx. Tk 5.8 million) with Benedict Bijoi Baroi, Executive Director of Lutheran Health Care Bangladesh for its project "Strengthening Lutheran Health Care Bangladesh Hospital Services ", reports UNB.
Lutheran has been working in health sector in Potuakhali. At the beginning of its establishment in 1995, the hospital mainly focused on improving maternal and child heath condition. Lutheran Hospital had gradually enhanced its coverage of patients beyond mothers and children.
The hospital will increase the number of beds to 50 from 30 of which 20 beds will be newly available for male patients. In addition, health education will be started for the community people and medical staffs in the area. Direct beneficiaries of the project are expected about 1 million households.
