Japanese jt venture to market Uniqlo casual clothings soon

The first phase of a joint venture to make fabric and garments for the Japanese clothing giant 'Uniqlo casual clothing chain' in Bangladesh is expected to take shape early this year, company source said.
The Japanese 'Fast Retailing Co,' mostly known by its brand name Uniqlo, is going to inaugurate its 'swing-unit' in Gazipur next month following a successful completion of a trial period, the source confirmed.
He also said a second project of US$ 75 million investment for a complete apparel unit with backward-linkage facilities at Rupganj in Narayanganj, is expected to take shape by the end of first quarter of 2010.
Uniqlo is Japan's leading clothing retail chain in terms of sales and profit. The company also operates in China, Hong Kong, South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, the United States of America and Singapore.
Uniqlo's is planning to brace for low-cost management responding to global financial recession. The company's focus on the shortest and economic manufacturing and marketing strategy has led it to Bangladesh and had opened its local office in Dhaka in September 2009.
Lengthy process to obtain gas connection to the Narayanganj project delayed the process; an official of the company said requesting anonymity.
Welcoming the initiative by the Japanese clothing giant, president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufactures & Exporters Association (BKMEA) Fazlul Hoque forecast significant Japanese investments in the country within 2010.
